It's kind of like the T.O/ McNabb situation that happened in Philly. Two superstars that just didn't get along. They had to have one or the other. Shaq is older, Kobe is a scoring freak. As far as for the team, like on the court, no it wasn't a good trade, but as far as chemistry yes.

How in the world is L.A. going to get Oden? They don't have the first pick in the draft.

looking at the situation these past few years, the lakers got a big boost from odom. THey got kwame too. Miami won a championship but i thnk they cant win one more. The lakers are now one of the strongest teams because of kobe and odom. Kobe has someone his age like jordan with pippen.

It was the stupidest decision they have ever made. Look at their team now they are a one man show with Kobe who scores freakin 50 points a game. No one else scores but him. Shaq was huge and powerful and one of the best centers of all time and you give him up for a couple of losers. Him Kobe were like bread and butter and they went well together that's why they one those championships together.

Yes, Shaq was the older of the two and Kobe was exciting to watch, but you don't get rid of the guy who gets titles.

The Lakers have seen Kobe the brat not turn into the leader that they wanted him to be. Instead they ended up with this self centered player who does not want to share the spot light with anyone. He has zero leadership ability due to the fact his first instinct is to score. He needs to know that an assists is just as good as two points in this league. Just ask Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.

Getting Odom is the best thing that happen to the Lakers in many many years. We can clearly see why they got rid of Shaq he hurt every season can't make free throws and teams are learning how to guard him. I'm glad they traded him when they did cause he's not that valuable now.

The economics of the whole Shaq/Kobe thing was the crux of why Shaq got traded. LA could not afford to keep 2 high priced superstars and an assortment of journeymen (Malone, Payton, etc.) Although Shaq is considered by some to be a still dominant force (he is on the injured list by the way), the Lakers considered his age to be a detriment. It made more sense to build a faster team around the talent of Kobe. Kobe has grown this year to be the mentor and leader of the young squad we have. The Lakers have a good collection of young talent now and is considered having the deepest bench in the NBA. Even without Odom and Kwame the Lake show was able to stop the Mav's 13 game win streak.

No way. They should have traded Bryant. Dominant centers are a rarity in the NBA while high quality guards and forwards are much more common. I think the Lakers may still win with Bryant eventually, I think it was a mistake to trade O'Neal.
depends what year you want to look at. last year it seemed as if miami got the better end of the deal w/ them winning the championship. but this year, it looks like the lakers got the better end since thay 1) have a better record and 2) shaq is now injured.

but i'm a laker fan. so of course i would say the lakers got the better end of the deal overall.
Yeah it was a good move for the long-term but a bad move for the short term. Short term Shaq and miami got a ring that could have been Shaq and kobe 4th ring. Long term it was a Good move cause odom and bryant are a lot younger and will allow the lakers to grow into a dominant team in the future. Byumn and Kwame Brown might suprise some People. Good move for the lakers
I'm sure Lakers fans enjoyed winning titles more as opposed to Kobe scoring 81. Letting Shaq go do to Kobe's popularity with the fans was a big mistake. Shaq is the reason LA has the trophies that they do know and not Kobe.

I don't think the Lakers had a choice. Shaq wanted to be moved, Kobe wanted him out, and Phil Jackson wanted him out. It's too bad as well because Shaq and Kobe could've been one of the best duos ever.

thats a no brainer. kidd's almost averaging a triple double this year and no doubt in my mind he would make the lakers better for a few years to come. not only would he supply good vision to an alerady decent playmaking kobe, but he could stretch the defense now that there's another liability for a 3 point shooter (jkidd's been working on his 3s)

the big question is how will it affect the nets. the nets might have to give up vince carter as well, but then does that bring more draft picks to the nets? paul pierce said it himself: "drafts picks build a team. experience and determination build a championship."

the lakers don't have much to offer for jkidd and the nets won't be getting durant/oden with anything, so they might as well stay put and continue to build around the big 3.

if the lakers dump farmar and smush parker, then the lakers have no future point guard. i think if the lakers get another star like jkidd (or a pf/c better and more consistent than odom) around kobe to bring the lakers back to the 00 - 02 campaign when shaq daddy and prince kobe ruled the royal court.

The nets would be willing to make that trade because farmar is going to be a stud in this league.... and it would make the lakers, a lot better, someone other than kobe to hit perimeter shots, and to penitrate down low, and kick it out..... this is going to be very good for the lakers if they can make this deal

yes, lakers get the better deal and kidd is a pass first guy and can pass to Kobe who will probably like Kidd as his teammates. they also have lamar odom. Thats better then Iverson and Carmelo as teammates. it will make them better. LAkers gets the better deal.

Kidd can lock down and win the point guard match up for the lakers which is the lakers weak point

kidd also helps with rebounds and will play his role

In the short term yes, in the long term no, they will need those players and picks. Kidd is just about done too. I don't think his body can take too much more.
In the short term, this might help the Lakers out quite a bit. Statistically, it would seem getting Kidd would be a great help, but working him into the offensive might be a little more trouble.

However, long term, this would not be good. Giving up young talent like Farmar is not something the Lakers would likely do. He's been far too promising this year to ship off.

Although it might make sense to acquire Kidd, as Kobe starts to climb over the hill, I doubt the Lakers will seek a trade solely because of Kidd's aging body.
I think it would make them a lot better. They dont need Kwame no more. Bynum will be alot better. Also, not only will it make the lakers better, it'll also make Kobe and Kidd better individual players as well.
trading for j-kidd means that the lakers are getting impatient to become champs again. it will definitely make them better in terms of how far could they go in the playoffs but it will pose problems in the long run by sacrificing 1st round picks. I like farmar, he is a sound point guard and he could learn a lot from kidd. id rather trade smush parker. kwame is absolutely the deal maker since the nets are need of a scoring big man. kwame is not quite there yet but is a project worth investing for the nets.

kidd might be old and a couple of years away from retirement, but he will assume playmaking responsibility away from kobe. yes, kobe is actually the 'point guard' for the lakers. imagine a fastbreak with kidd in the middle and kobe and lamar on the wings.

Lakers have a HUGE hill to climb.

Celtics have better matchup. Pierce can Match Kobe (like he did with LBJ in Game 7). Gasol and Odom can't match KG, and I doubt Rad will help much in guarding Ray Allen at the perimeter. Rondo will outrun the slower Fisher, who will try to get a body on him, but will end up on rotations instead.

Only chance for Lakers is to have the experience of Phil Jackson outplay the Doc.
