The Suns just traded for Shaq. Was that a panic response to the Lakers' trade for Gasol?

This is just crazy! Sure, they could use another big man, but not Shaq. He has never ending back, leg, and hip injuries, and when he does play, I don't think he can keep up with the Suns running offense. In the story on Yahoo homepage, it says a league official thought it was a joke until it actually happened. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=jy...

I would not call it a "panic" move, since GM Steve Kerr is a pretty smart and level headed guy. But it is definitely a response to the Lakers getting Gasol. In addition to the team needing a stronger post presence, the relationship between Marion and Amare was deteriating to the detriment of team chemistry.

Personally I think the trade has the potential to improve the Suns in the short term, but not enough to get by the Spurs or Lakers in the playoffs. That's only if Shaq stays healthy and motivated. And long term it is a big mistake.

Probably and if so, what do they do when Shaq has back pains and sits out in 2 weeks. I think he Suns are getting hosed on this deal. Shaq has already said he isnt going to play more than 1 more year.
Easily answered with yes... the Shaq trade is definatly a knee jerk reaction. And it is not even close to being a trade that will benefit the Suns as much as the Gasol trade will benefit the Lakers.
Yes. They hope that will help them match up with the Lakers. But, It slows them down. Will Shaq be healthy enough, no. He might not pass the MRI. They lose the matrix offense, rebounds and defense. Diaw benefits he will getmore playing time that he deserves. But still not enough. Can Shaq fit in that system or will they change everything for Shaq? Desperaration hurts the Suns. Lakers will own the west by next year.
Sun is doomed if they think Shaq is the answer for them!

Kobe for MVP!!
maybe
yes no doubt...but they are right, if they kept their team they werent going to get a rebound against lamar bynum and gasol...and the game is about second chances..
At this stage, it will be a gamble to trade Marion for Shaq, especially Nash is already aging and is starting (although it still doesn't show) it's decline. They have been trying for years but always end up beaten in the playoffs. Shaq might be the factor the Suns are looking for (or didn't know). There was no major change in it's lineup except for Grant Hill.

It might be also their answer because Lakers got taller up front.
